Dana R. Vaillancourt, Head Instructor

Dana R. Vaillancourt has been training in the Korean martial arts since the mid-1970’s.  Dana received all of his Tang Soo Do dan ranks up to 7th dan from Grandmaster Jae Joon Kim and was promoted to the rank of 8th dan in Tang Soo Do by Grandmaster Chung Il Kim.  Mr. Vaillancourt was an Executive Committee member with the World Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do Federation (WMDKTSDF), a certified WMDKTSDF master instructor and received many Letters of Commendation and several Certificates of Appreciation from Grandmaster Jae Joon Kim. 

Mr. Vaillancourt has been a member of the Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) Taekwondo program since 1989 and was the South Dakota AAU Taekwondo sport chairman from 1991-1997 & 2002-2012.  A United States Taekwondo Union certified referee (1986 & 1987), he was also selected to be in the Third Edition of Who’s Who in American Martial Arts and received a Recognition Award from TaeKwonDo Times magazine in 1989.  He presently holds an 8th dan in Taekwondo from the World Taekwondo Changmookwan and Taekwondo dan rank from both the Kukkiwon and AAU Taekwondo program.  A long-time successful competitor and martial arts teacher, Mr. Vaillancourt has promoted many students to dan rank and several to master-level rank.  A student first, Mr. Vaillancourt continues to personally teach classes when in Huron, SD, trains on a weekly basis, and participates in martial arts seminars whenever possible.  He has a Masters of Science (MS) degree in cultural resources management and a Bachelors of Arts (BA) degree in both history and sociology.  An archeologist and architectural historian by profession, Mr. Vaillancourt is the Federal Preservation Officer for a USDA agency in Washington D. C.
